After using Robert’s copy-editing services for Self-Printed: The Sane Person’s Guide to Self-Publishing I have no hesitation in recommending him to other self-publishers. Hiring an editor can be daunting – we often worry that we won’t get value for money or that the editor will change our book rather than strengthen it. But you can rest assured that you’ll have nothing to worry about if you add Robert to your self-publishing team. He’s utterly professional, highly experienced and working with him is entirely stress-free. If you’re still hunting for an editor, you can stop here.

Robert is an experienced professional who is unstinting with his valuable insights and advice. His skillful development- and copy-editing of my debut novel, The Calling of John Fitzcanty, ensured the story had a natural congruency that would otherwise have been missing. Robert is generous with his time and took a personal interest in me and the book, which is something that many professionals fail to do. I highly recommend Robert and will return to him when my current book is ready for editing.
– Declan Jones, author of The Calling of John Fitzcanty

Robert worked with me from the concept stage of The Eighty-Five Billion Euro Man through to publication. His editing expertise was essential to getting the book finished. He got the humour of it, understood the politics and, critically, was able to get the book back on track on occasions when my writing had brought it down a cul-de-sac.
– Donal Conaty, author of The Eighty-five Billion Euro Man

I recently engaged Robert to edit my first children’s book. He is a very experienced and conscientious professional. He understands his craft extremely well, and worked closely and sensitively with me to achieve the desired outcome: to make my book the very best it could be. For any first-time author, the editor has a vital role to play. Robert helped me find a new level of confidence and certainty in my writing that I know will stay with me in the future. He was a pleasure to work with and I am very happy to recommend him.
– Jackie Burke, author of The Secrets of Grindlewood

Robert is an excellent, professional and efficient editor. His input helped to shape and structure my book in ways I would never have been able to achieve on my own. His charming personality makes working with him a pleasure rather than a chore. I have no hesitation in recommending his services to any aspiring or established author.

Robert was the copy-editor on a book I co-edited with Dr Denise MacCarthy (Word of Mouth: Coping with and Surviving Mouth, Head and Neck Cancers). This was a fairly small project when it began but it grew exponentially as we worked on it.  We were on a very tight deadline and under pressure. Robert was an ideal copy-editor. He was sensitive to our specific requirements, diligent with fact-checking, vigilant with regard to errors. He showed enormous grace and good humour, was tolerant of sudden changes, calm and patient when the temperature rose. He was firm and clear when it came to holding us to deadlines that were essential to our project. I have no hesitation in recommending him as an editor – in fact I already have, to several people. And I’ve started to work with him on a project of my own.
– Lia Mills, co-editor of Word of Mouth: Coping with and Surviving Mouth, Head and Neck Cancers

Robert worked with me on the final edit of my first non-fiction book, Going Solo on Lake Como, and I loved every minute of working with him. Even though my book had been through a full structural edit, he quickly rooted out a number of issues with consistency and style, amongst other things. Even though it wasn’t his brief, he also kept me out of some legal trouble. Robert is a winning combination of thorough, smart, experienced and fun to work with. I hope I get to work with him again and I would highly recommend him to authors at any stage of the editing process. He makes what he does look easy, when actually it’s anything but and is built on years of experience.
– Ciara O’Toole, author of Going Solo on Lake Como

My project wouldn’t have worked without Robert’s vision, skill, patience and preternatural niceness.
– David Kenny, editor of The Trib: Highlights from The Sunday Tribune

I approached the editorial process with some trepidation but found it to be an enjoyable and informative process. Robert works at both macro and micro levels. He understands the elements of plot, pacing and characterization and identifies where these could do with some rewriting, always remaining faithful to the story you are trying to tell. The result of his high-level review is that your story emerges much clearer than it was when it entered the process. On the detail level, Robert efficiently identifies syntax, POV and other rudimentary errors, which if left alone would undermine the story. Importantly, Robert supplements his written feedback with discussion to help tease out different remedies. Reassuringly, there is no hint of rancour if some of his suggestions are not implemented, rather he tries his best to help you find the best solutions for your book.
